Melanie Cooper

Melanie, a chartered accountant, became the first female and the first of the fifth generation to be employed at the brewery on a permanent basis.

After completing a degree in Economics at the University of Adelaide, she was employed by Price Waterhouse for four years. She joined the brewery in 1985 as assistant accountant and in 1989 was appointed Company Secretary. In 1993 Melanie resigned to have a family and returned to the brewery in 2002 as Financial Accountant. 

When Melanie’s father, Bill Cooper, retired from the board in 2009 she was appointed Director of Corporate Affairs. In 2010 she was made Company Secretary and in 2014 she was also appointed Director of Finance.

Melanie has also been Governor of the Coopers Brewery Foundation since its inception in 2006 and took over from Tim Cooper as chair towards the end of 2011. Mel also chairs the Foundation Investment Committee. In October 2014 Melanie was invited to join the Prime Ministers Community Business Partnership for a 3 year term.


Melanie has held many board positions including J & AG Johnston, Burnside Hospital Foundation and Neurosurgical Research Foundation.
