Coopers Secures Australian-first Digital Lock-out on NYE

Coopers Brewery is giving New Year revellers across Australia the opportunity to publicly shout out to their best mate, family member or loved ones.

In an Australian media-first, the company has secured a complete one-hour lock-out on 45 high-profile digital billboards across the country from 11.30pm on 31 December to 12.30am on 1 January, 2016.

During the hour, Coopers will allow members of the public to “shout out” to friends and family by putting their names to a series of New Year messages.

The billboards make up the entire APN digital network and are located in some of the busiest city hotspots in Australia including Federation Square in Melbourne, Kings Cross in Sydney, King George Square in Brisbane, Rundle Mall in Adelaide, as well as Perth and Sydney Airports.

Coopers will also have access to the entire APN national digital network from Monday 28 December to Sunday 3 January.

The consumer Shout Outs run during the one-hour lock-out will then be integrated with generic Coopers-branded Shout Outs for the next three days. Coopers-branded Shout Outs will also run in the days prior to the lock-out.

From this week, members of the Australian public can visit to submit their own Shout Out.

They will be able to choose a billboard location, select an approximate timeslot for their message to be displayed and choose from a Coopers beer brand template – Coopers Original Pale Ale, Coopers Sparkling Ale or Coopers Mild Ale.

They can then select from a number of pre-generated New Year’s salutations, add the name of the person to which the Shout Out is dedicated, their own name, and submit it.

Shout Out messages range from ‘Happy New Year’, ‘All the best in 2016’ and ‘Let’s party’ to ‘Happy Birthday’, ‘Happy Anniversary’, ‘You’re a legend’, ‘I love you’ and ‘Will you marry me?’.

All posts will be moderated and once approved, people will have the opportunity to share their billboard Shout Out via their own social media channels.

Coopers’ National Sales and Marketing Director, Mr Cam Pearce, said this was the first time that Coopers had taken advantage of such a unique and exciting opportunity.

“We believe it’s a first in Australia from a media point of view,” Mr Pearce said.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for Coopers and we’re thrilled to be playing a part in the New Year’s Eve festivities of thousands of people across the country.”

Mr Pearce said more than 11,000 Shout Out opportunities would be up for grabs.

“That means over 200 spots per billboard site will be open for people to submit a personal message to a good friend, family member or significant other,” he said.

“It wouldn’t surprise us if there were a few marriage proposal requests on-screen on selected billboards on the night – and what a fun way to do it.”

Mr Pearce said the Coopers Shout Out billboards were a great opportunity for people to make a big public statement.

“This is a first-in best-dressed opportunity – once all the billboard time slots are booked through the Coopers Shout Out microsite – that’s it,” he said.

“The Coopers Shout Out digital billboards are a fun way for Coopers to become part of New Year’s celebrations for many partygoers Australia-wide during one of the biggest events of the year.”
